Fusion Flowers magazine is a multi-award winning magazine which has subscribers worldwide. Each year they launch their hunt for fusion flowers international designer of the year. Competitors are given four titles to create a floral design for and submit photographs for each design for judging by top international designers. This years judges were Annette von Einem (Denmark), Baudouin Roelants (Belgium) and Alex Segura (Spain).
The categories this year were;
- Circles - design style of your choice
- Front Cover - design style of your choice to be suitable for use on fusion flowers magazine front cover!
- Cascade - Design style of your choice
- Free Expression -design style of your choice
This is such a fun competition to enter as competitors can create designs at their own pace as long as entries are received by the hand in date - This is usually at least 9 months. Both Lisa and Charlotte decided to enter this year and Lisa was lucky enough to be one of ? competitors to win awards. She gained a bronze award for her cascade design and her first silver in this competition for her Front cover design. The numbers of the awards that were given overall in the Fusion Flowers International Designer of the Year competition 2013 was 4 Platinum, 7 Gold, 17 Silver, 59 Bronze. The top three winners were - FIRST - Premsyl Hytech (Czech Republic); SECOND - Harijanto Setiawan; JOINT THIRD - Takako Nishii (Japan) and Tiina Koskinen (Finland).
Circles
Lisa created a bridal bouquet of felt circles embellished with flowers, mirrors and wool covered rings. Botanicals used are pansies, forget-me-nots and begonia’s with ceropegia vines, huechera leaves and grasses.
Charlottes circle design was a mass of yellow craspedia surrounded by paper cones and embellished with Tillandsia fronds. This design was suitable as a contemporary wall hanging /living art.
Front Cover
Lisa’s silver award winning design is a wax and resin heart embellished with roses and petals with decorative grasses and inlaid foliage’s.
Charlotte’s front cover design is a quirky wedding design primarily using coffee beans -it smelt fantastic and looked fabulous too!
Cascade
Lisa’s bronze award winning design was an arrangement in a striking blue vase displaying a cascading wax covered framework with test tubes and vines. the flowers used were cyclamen, viola’s and silver toned foliages.
Charlottes cascade design was a self made wax pomander with flowing materials of African violets and ceropegia vines.
Free Expression
Lisa created a corrugated cardboard antler inspired design that stood within a rustic tree stump and was covered in cones, nuts and berries - she called “fruits of the forest”.
Charlottes design was a quirky self made tree embellished with snow. created with a wire framework which would be suitable as a Christmas decoration.
The titles have already been released for 2014, which are; 1. Origins - design style of your choice 2. Mask – design style of your choice 3. Romance – design style of your choice 4. Wall Art – design style of your choice but must be able to be hung on a wall
